The Surat Special Economic Zone announced that it will henceforth allow the movement of goods to the Domestic Tariff Area for job work purposes and the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council celebrated the move as a positive development for India’s jewellery industry.
The decision was made at the Surat SEZ following an appeal made by the GJEPC’s Gujarat regional chairman Vijay Mangukiya on behalf of the traders’ body to Surat Sez’s development commissioner Abhimaniu Sharma, the GJEPC reported on its website. “The development commissioner, understanding the gravity of the matter and the industry’s needs, promptly responded by agreeing to allow such movements with immediate effect,” noted the GJEPC, stating that the development will help jewellery businesses in the region.
The GJEPC also held ‘Dinner with an Icon’ in Mumbai on February 20 to celebrate diamond business Sheetal Group’s winning bid of Rs 30 lakh to dine with Titan Company’s managing director C.K. Venkataraman, made at Jewellers for Hope 2023. The donation of Sheetal Group will be put towards education focused NGO Project Nanhi Kali.
“Heartfelt Thanks to Sheetal Group,” announced the GJEPC on Facebook. “Your generous contribution and support to Nanhi Kali will go a long way and inspire others to contribute.”
