E-commerce platform eBay will launch its ‘Jewellery Authentication Guarantee Program’ in India at Mumbai’s Sabtacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone. The program will offer authenticity and quality guarantees to buyers and promote trust in sellers on the platform.
The launch was announced at a Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council seminar titled ‘How to sell Luxury Jewellery on eBay?’, the GJEPC announced on its website. The program takes advantage of the recently revised Indian e-commerce policy and will launch at the Mumbai SEEPZ in the coming two months before expanding to other Indian cities.
In its initial phase of launching the authenticity guarantee will be available for jewellery items with a minimum value of $500, with inventory of Indian sellers warehoused in US. The program could be expanded to other categories in the future.
In order to provide jewellery authenticity guarantees, eBay has partnered with the Gemological Institute of America which will certify the jewellery at its facility in Carlsbad, California. Once certified, the Indian made jewellery will be shipped directly to US buyers.
As well as offering authentication, eBay’s AG Program is designed to facilitate trackable, low-cost shipping for Indian exporters through the eBay Global Shipping Portal. According to the GJEPC, the program will also contribute to every Indian district becoming export-capable through the government’s One District One Product initiative.
