This Lesser-Known Region in Italy Will Pay for Your Train Fare When You Visit

Must read

When you think of a trip to Italy, some of the destinations that come to your mind are Rome, Milan, and Venice. These places are incredible, to say the least. But did you know there is an equally wonderful place to visit? What’s even better, this region will pay your train fare when you visit.

We are talking about the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. Tucked next to Slovenia and Austria, this lesser-known tourist destination has plenty to offer its visitors. Unlike Rome, Venice, and Milan, the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region is crowd-free and will not put you through the hassle of having to deal with long queues.

Now, we know you are really starting to get interested, right? To put the icing on the cake, the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia is now offering tourists free train tickets. But that’s not all; also, there are extra complimentary perks. But why are the people involved doing all these? Well, turns out the answer is simple; they simply want to encourage tourists to explore the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

The golden coast, sprawling vineyards, and Dolomite mountains make the region a stunning place to visit. That being said, the experience here is pretty much bittersweet. On one side, you will be frustrated for having not discovered the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia early enough. On the other side, you will be extremely happy for being one of the few travelers to set foot in it.

It is worth noting that the offer of the free train fare together with additional complimentary perks goes until May 31, 2023. So, you still have plenty of time to enjoy what the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region has to offer.

According to the local tourism board, all inbound train journeys to the region’s four cities will be refunded. These cities include Lignano Sabbiadoro, Grado, Udine, and Trieste. It is important to note that this program also comes with a complimentary FGVcard that is valid for a couple of days. The FGVcard allows tourists to travel at no cost or to pay discounted prices when traveling through public transport alongside museums, attractions, exhibitions like Banksy’s in Salone Degli Incanti, and guided tours to historical sites, among others.

The exhibitions will open on November 25 and go all the way to April 10, 2023. Given that the offer runs until May 31, 2023, this means you have a golden opportunity to be part of the exhibitions.

But if you are a globetrotter, the capital of Trieste is for you. This border town carved between Italy and Slovenia boasts a perfectly restored old town that will leave you in awe. You will definitely love the roman relics. Furthermore, this region produces some of the best wines in Europe; making it the perfect place to book a wine-tasting tour.

If you move along the Adriatic Sea, you will get to the city of Lignano Sabbiadoro. Well, this is home to some of Italy’s stunning beaches. Grado, on the other hand, features canals, which run along the quaint seaside village. That is why it is sometimes described as a “quiet Venice”.

To receive the benefits of free train tickets and other complimentary perks, your package must meet certain conditions. These include:

• Booking on turismofvg.it/trenitalia
• Buying a return ticket departing from within Italy at any of the five stations through the Trenitalia line. These five stations are Udine, Trieste Centrale, Trieste Airport, Cervignano-Aquileia-Grado, and Latisana-Lignano-Bibione.
• Staying at least two nights in Friuli-Venezia Giulia in any participating holiday apartment, hotel, or B&B

You should also note that reservations have to be made no later than five days before you depart. Moreover, neither first-class train tickets nor accommodation costs are discounted. Plus, there are blackout dates on which the offer is not applicable. These include Easter, Christmas, and Italian bank holidays.

Airbnb recently named the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia as one of the most remote worker-friendly destinations in the world. This means the offer could not come at a better time if you are a digital nomad. The offer presents you with a nice opportunity to visit the region and enjoy everything it has to offer before making a life-changing decision of becoming a permanent resident of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region.
