“At Taneira, we launched our seventh Weavershala, a space dedicated to preserving and modernising the timeless artistry of Bhagalpur’s Tussar sarees,” announced the brand on Facebook. “Located in the picturesque Hira Khutari, Bhagaiya, Godda, this unique space serves as a hub for skilled weavers and women reelers. The Weavershala is a testament to Taneira’s commitment to preserve and forward the art of weaving Tussar sarees, enabling the weavers with modern and efficient handlooms.”

Taneira’s Weavershala institutes are built to be well-lit and clean, according to the brand’s website. The facilities include new age frame looms to enable precision and the business aims to create a close-knit community of artisans at each location.

“What distinguishes this Weavershala is its modern approach of machine reeling, designed to elevate working conditions for the women involved in the process,” announced Taneira. “Reeling, a predominantly female-centric task, involves delicately unraveling cocoon baves to form a single thread. Being a labour-intensive process, the introduction of machine reeling not only preserves the authenticity of the craft but also ensures a more dignified and comfortable working environment for the women reelers.”

Taneira launched its Weavershala initiative in 2022 with the aim of preserving the art of hand-weaving across India, according to the brand’s website. Weavershala institutes are designed to help artisans to hone their skills and earn a living wage as they work towards preserving heritage Indian crafts and creating work for Taneira products.
