Siouxsie and the Banshees revival

Must read

The house of Versace has always loved a dash of punk and enjoyed a major infusion Friday night in Milan, with a Siouxsie and The Banshees revival collection.

Albeit a very posh punk sort of renaissance, with a cast sporting the spiky hairdos of the deceased singer, and Siouxsie’s classic track ‘Carcass’ blasting out of the speakers.

Versace has never been a quiet brand or house, and there was a raw quality about the soundtrack by DJ Frederic Sanchez that included a track called ‘Love Is A Punk’ by Louisahhh.

Presented inside the Fiera di Milano in a great million-euro Space Odyssey-inspired set and marvelous winding ramps, where scores of models strode down thick pile carpet into a central pit.

What was great about this collection was that Donatella did not try to reinvent the wheel, but played with all the brands classic codes.

For the gals, she had Uptown Siouxsie in very sexy glistening tweed bouclé jackets worn with mini-skirts or stretch pants. Matinee idol Siouxsie in strict tuxedo cocktails, some in dazzling anthracite sequins; or Siouxsie on her way to cut a record deal in tight blazer, leggings and the boot of the season – the buccaneer. Or most explosively, Gigi Siouxsie Hadid in a dominatrix femme fatale crepe governess gown.

For guys, golden Medusa head silk shirts along with some very kicky tailoring, like the five-pocket jacket with Savile Row ticket pocket. Referencing her dear departed friend Prince, whom she visited in Paisley Park.

Lots of fiery red or rusty brown looks in pony skin, very much the now fabric in Milano.

“Rebel attitude with a kind heart,” said Donatella backstage, after posing like in black mannish tuxedo as a fashion empress on a long white stairway.

Still, even at 68, the reigning queen of rock ‘n’ roll fashion.
