Diamond and gemstone artist Reena Ahluwalia has created the world’s first digital art NFT of the Koh-i-Noor diamond. After spending two years painting the historical diamond, Ahluwalia used blockchain technology to create an accessible NFT.
“Two years back when I started the painting, I was nowhere close,”announced Ahluwalia on Facebook, unveiling the painting. “Finally, I have completed painting the world’s most famous diamond – the Koh-i-Noor. A dream come true!”
The project was designed to fuse art, jewellery history, and technology, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council announced on its website. Ahluwalia has released a limited edition of 50 NFTs of the diamond art, which can be purchased through use of a crypto wallet such as Metamask or Ethereum.
“I want to preserve the legend and legacy of Koh-i-Noor through my painting and imprint it on the blockchain for perpetuity as a digital artwork,” said Ahluwalia about her reason for creating a digital artwork, the GJEPC reported. “I want to give back the Koh-i-noor to people, back to all who think it belongs to them… My interpretation of Koh-i-Noor diamond is imagination combined with my diamond knowledge, and how light could reflect on facets considering its geometry. More importantly, I wanted to capture its true essence and symbolism.”
