Designer Rajesh Pratap Singh debuted his collaborative capsule collection with polo inspired apparel brand La Martina on the runway on day one of Lakmé Fashion Week x Fashion Design Council of India. The showcase on March 13 celebrated the tradition and prestige of polo in India with wearable separates.
“For the Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI collaboration with La Martina, I’m excited to bring forth a collection that speaks volumes about the enduring charm of Polo in India,” said designer Rajesh Pratap Singh in a press release. “It’s more than just fashion; it celebrates heritage and sport seamlessly woven together. The intricate details and vibrant cultural nods in the upcoming pieces embody a heartfelt tribute to Jaipur’s dynamic spirit.”
The presentation took place at an offsite location and highlighted the connection between Jaipur and Polo. Rajesh Pratap Singh’s Indian style and La Martina’s Argentinian heritage were blended together by details such as flat knit intarsia, fine mercerised flat knits, chevron intarsia variations, zardosi badges, and hand block printing.
“Polo is one of those sports that could be considered the last frontier to luxury,” said La Martina’s co-founder and president Adrian Simonetti. “There are so many beautiful things connected, like passion for the horse, the lifestyle that comes with it, beautiful landscapes, and beautiful people going to those. The more sophisticated customers are now scratching the surface saying, ‘I get the appeal, but what’s original?’ They go a little bit deeper into the category and that’s where we get discovered.”
Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI runs from March 13 to 17 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The event brings together designers from across India and features both physical runway shows and digital showcases with a number of design competitions and fashion seminars.
