The government’s Open Network for Digital Commerce has reported hitting 10 million monthly transactions in June this year. The platform is continuing to experience swift growth with its total platform transactions increasing by approximately one million a month for the past two months.
ONDC reported 6.1 million non-mobility transactions in June and 3.9 million mobility transactions, ET Retail reported, citing a report by Equirus Securities India. Retail has been the main driving force for ONDC’s transaction volume growth as non-mobility orders have been growing swiftly while mobility orders had dropped in June from ONDC’s March total of 4.1 million.
ONDC was designed by the government with the aim of democratising India’s e-commerce landscape by making products by small businesses as visible as those of large corporations. ONDC highlights products from across the country, such as on July 9 when it shone the spotlight on Chikankari sarees from Lucknow on its Facebook page. The platform has been highlighting numerous local weaves this week and also promoted Kanchipuram sarees on social media.
As ONDC deepens its ties with India’s production industries, the platform announced its partnership with the Grameen Foundation for Social Impact. “The primary objective is to enhance digital inclusion for Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), nano, micro, small, and medium enterprises (NMSMEs), and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) through education, sensitisation, and facilitation,” announced ONDC about the collaboration on Facebook.
