The Open Network for Digital Commerce has partnered with US-based multinational technology conglomerate Meta to boost Indian small business’ sales through messaging platform WhatsApp and offer training programmes.
“Our partnership with Meta will not only digitally upskill these businesses but will also enable them to connect with a customer base far and wide,” said ONDC’s CEO and managing director T Koshy, India Retailing reported.
Over the coming two years, ONDC and Meta plan to digitally upskill five lakh micro, small, and medium businesses through the Meta Small Business Academy. Entrepreneurs will learn how to harness WhatsApp’s technology and features for growth by communicating with customers and building strong relationships with their target demographics.
As part of the collaboration, ONDC will aid these business solution providers to function as seller apps. ONDC will also bring the businesses that they service onto its platform to enable them to reach a wider customer demographic.
“Our partnership with ONDC builds on supporting the government’s vision for Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and furthering our ongoing commitment to skilling small businesses and aiding this digital transformation in the country,” said Meta India’s vice president Sandhya Devanathan.
ONDC has developed a chatbot for WhatsApp named ‘Sahayak’ to aid in seller-customer communication. Meta will help to enhance this service as part of the partnership.
“Today we are announcing our partnership with ONDC, to empower entrepreneurs and small businesses, by giving them access to digital tools and skills that will help them unlock the power of digital commerce,” announced Meta on Facebook on December 19.
