The NIF Global Runway celebrated sustainable fashion with five Indian student collections at Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with the FDCI on October 10. The New Delhi runway show mixed unconventional inspirations with an innovative use of materials.
The NIF Global Runway presented NIF Global Mumbai, Andheri student Janvi Malkan’s ‘Pari-Localist’ collection, inspired by the Catacombs of Paris, France. Mixing darkness and light, the collection juxtaposed structured corsets with floaty organza and chiffon for a romantic effect.
NIF Global Pune, Kothrud students Chetan Mali and Mahendra Chaudhary presented colourful, structured garments for ‘Vintage Miraj.’ Experimenting with ‘waste jewellery’ and embroidery, the collection brought to mind a vibrant bazaar.
Janak Tak from NIF Global, Jaipur took a resort wear approach to ‘The Sarovar,’ inspired by the Pushkar mela. Kimono style garments and colourful separates made for an eclectic collection.
NIF Global, Bhopal students Chitrika Rathore and Amatulla Petiwala took inspiration from the Maheshwar Fort for their collection ‘Kile Ki Kala.’ Garments in brown red and off-white hues were embroidered and traditional jute cotton and muslin textiles added to the tactile, rich aesthetic.
Kinjal Laddha and Ayush Patel of NIF Global Indore showcased ‘The Freedom’s Expression,’ inspired by the Interlace, Singapore. The minimalist line explored techniques including interlacing, appliqués, cutwork dyeing, and overlapping to a thoroughly modern effect.
Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with the FDCI runs from October 9 to 13 in New Delhi. The event brings together brands from across India and also features numerous design contests.
