Muji’s largest India store to date opens in Mumbai

Japanese clothing, accessories, and lifestyle business Muji has opened its largest brick-and-mortar store in India in Mumbai’s Jio World Plaza at Bandra Kurla Complex. Measuring 12,000 square feet, the store opened under the minimalist brand’s partnership with Reliance Brands Limited.

“Muji, opened its Flagship store at the newly inaugurated Jio World Plaza Mall in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai,” announced Reliance Brands Limited on Facebook. “With store size spanning over 12,000 square feet, this is Muji’s largest retail outlet in India. The store location at Bandra Kurla Complex is in the heart of the city and functions as both a business district and a hub for daily activities… Head over to the new store to indulge in Muji’s profound Japanese legacy as you explore an extensive assortment of everyday essentials.”
 
The store retails product categories including clothing, accessories, furniture, storage solutions, bedding, stationery, electronics, travel essentials, and cosmetics among others. The outlet will also be home to the first ever Muji Café in India which will enable shoppers to dine on traditional Japanese food. 

The Muji brand name is an abbreviation of ‘Mujirushi Ryohin’, Japanese for ‘no-brand quality products’. Muji launched in Japan in 1980 and label’s clothing is minimalist and functional with a traditional Japanese sensibility.
 
Muji signed a joint venture with Reliance Brands Limited in 2015 and subsequently began to open stores in India. The brand now counts four India stores across Mumbai and Noida and plans to continue to open brick-and-mortar outlets across the country.
