Eyewear and eye care business Lenskart plans to set up the world’s largest eyewear manufacturing unit in Telangana to cater to Indian and global markets with an investment of Rs 1,500 crore.
Along with India, the upcoming factory will export goods to regions including the Middle East and Southeast Asia, announced Lenskart’s co-founder Amit Chaudhary, TNN reported. The manufacturing unit will produce products ranging from eye glasses and sunglasses to lenses, accessories, and other products.
On December 8, Lenskart signed a memorandum of understanding with the Telangana state government, ET Bureau reported. The MoU was signed at an event which celebrated the one year anniversary of the Revanth Reddy led government with notable dignitaries present including Telangana’s industries and IT minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu. Chaudhary took the occasion to note that Lenskart explored setting up its factory in numerous states before choosing Telangana due to its ease of doing business among other factors.
Lenskart’s manufacturing unit will be located at Telangana’s Fab City. The land for the development was recently identified and handed over to the business to begin construction.
Lenskart also mentioned that it could later set up a research and development facility in the state. The factory itself is expected to generate approximately 2,100 employment opportunities.
