GJEPC Kolkata promotes e-commerce exports at industry event

The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council’s Kolkata office teamed up with the Ankurhati Gems & Jewellery Manufacturers Welfare Association to educate jewellery workers on how to export jewellery via e-commerce in a bid to boost adoption of the practice.

The GJEPC brought together a group of jewellery entrepreneurs at the Ankurhati Gems & Jewellery Park in Kolkata on December 6 to take part in an interactive workshop, the traders’ body announced on its website. The event was designed to train and advise Howrah’s upcoming jewellery entrepreneurs on how to harness multi-brand e-commerce platforms to bring their products to international audiences while also taking advantage of exclusive benefits on offer. 
 
The GJEPC’s eastern regional chairman Pankaj Parekh led the session and promoted GJEPC membership while explaining the organisation’s activities such as its participation in international trade shows. In his address, GJEPC Kolkata’s assistant director Kaushik Ghosh noted that there exists significant export potential for jewellery manufactured in Howrah district and detailed how e-commerce can be used to sell products directly from the manufacturer to the end customer to maximise the manufacturer’s profits. 

Multi-brand global e-commerce platform Ebay’s jewellery acquisition manager Saurabh Wadhwa walked participants through how to join Ebay’s marketplace. Other speakers at the event including the GJEPC’s Jaipur director Nitin Khandelwal and India Post’s Foreign Post representative D Nath among others. Approximately 50 local jewellery businesses took part in the event.
