French fragrance brand Matière Première welcomes Kering Beauty into its capital

Following an initial fundraising in October 2020, Matière Première has welcomed Kering Beauty as a minority shareholder. This marks the first such venture for Kering Beauty, established at the beginning of 2023 and overseeing the fragrances of brands like Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, and Creed, the Anglo-French high perfumery house acquired by Kering late last year.

With this capital infusion, the amount of which remains undisclosed, the house —  founded in 2019 by Aurélien Guichard, Cédric Meiffret, and Caius von Knorring, who retain majority ownership — aims to accelerate its international retail and e-commerce expansion.

“Our goal is to open standalone boutiques, primarily in major cities within our key markets: France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Middle East, and China. We will also enhance our online presence through our own website, which we are developing to offer an exclusive and personalized customer experience,” stated Caius von Knorring, president of Matière Première.

Aurélien Guichard, the house’s perfumer, cultivates his own ingredients, notably Rose Centifolia for Radical Rose and tuberose for French Flower. All production from the fields, located in the Grasse region, is exclusively for the brand, which prioritizes sourcing from ethical producers.

Present in over 50 countries and nearly 400 points of sale, Matière Première relies on selective distribution through retailers like Printemps, Galeries Lafayette, Harrods, Liberty, Selfridge’s, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Launched in October 2023, Vanilla Powder is the brand’s latest creation, with a new perfume collection set to debut in September.
