The California based brand has received funding from billionaire Bill Gates and the brand uses biotechnology to formulate its skincare products. Biossance’s hero ingredient is Squalane oil, which features in most of its products and moisturises effectively while maintaining a healthy skin barrier, according to Biossance’s Facebook page.

Biossance’s parent company is Amyris, which was founded in 2003. The business runs a number of personal care brands including skincare brand Terasana, haircare brand JVN, beauty brand Rose Inc, and women’s health brand Menolabs among others.
