Amita Gupta Sustainable and Swatti Kapoor took inspiration from nature for wearable womenswear at a joint showcase on day two of Lakmé Fashion Week x Fashion Design Council of India. The runway show took place on Sustainable Fashion Day and highlighted eco-friendly production.
Amita Gupta Sustainable began the joint showcase on Thursday with a womenswear collection titled ‘The Age of Reforestation’ which looked for harmony between nature and human beings. With pure white textiles and sculptural bags which were overflowing with greenery, Gupta imagined a world where humans and nature peacefully coexist, rendered with effortless layers and fusion style silhouettes.
Swatti Kapoor’s collection followed with a vibrant showcase which championed Indian weaves and showed them in a bohemian, wearable way. The collection was directly inspired by the desert rose (adenium obesum), Lakmé Fashion Week reported on Facebook, and this motif featured in block prints throughout the collection, which was named ‘Sahaara’.
Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI runs from October 11 to 15 at the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. Along with runway shows, the fashion week features a business-to-customer fashion fair, design contests, and student showcases. The on-the-ground fashion shows are also live-streamed on Instagram and Facebook to enable the public to watch.
