Multi-brand luxury Indian fashion retailer Amethyst will host designer Sunita Shanker at its boutique in Royapettah, Chennai for an exclusive showcase of the brand’s new collection titled ‘Tangible Memories: Kantha’. The event will also present the eponymous designer’s ‘Quintessential Bandhani: Flowing Rhythm’ collection and will run from November 22 to 24 at The Folly.
The showcase is designed to offer Chennai’s shoppers an exclusive range of festive wear for the winter season. Designer Sunita Shanker will attend the event herself and present an array of statement jackets, long-line waistcoats, blouses, maxi skirts, and light coats. Garments in the collection are priced from Rs 4,950 onwards, Amethyst announced in a press release.
The brand’s Kantha collection is made from a collection of old sarees, restored and updated with the traditional practice of Kantha by artisans in rural Bengal. The old sarees were sorted, cleaned, hand dyed in jewel tomes, then restored and made into a modern, structured collection.
With a colour palette of plum, blue, midnight green, and black, the collection also features abstract floral embroidery. “These textiles have been imbued in cultural importance and are tangible reminders of experiences, traditions and identities,” announced Amethyst in a press release.
Sunita Shanker’s Bandhani collection is inspired by the patterns of nature, translated into simple embroidery designs. The collection also features a lot of black and separates are designed to be layered, mixed, and matched to create versatility.
