Embassy of Sweden holds sustainable fashion show with FDCI chairman Sunil Sethi

The Embassy of Sweden in India held a sustainable fashion show to highlight both country’s commitment to nurturing a circular fashion industry. Curated by the Fashion Design Council of India’s chairman Sunil Sethi, the runway show also celebrated 75 years of diplomatic relations between Sweden and India. 

“The Swedish fashion scene has experienced a remarkable transition thanks to the combined efforts of designers, industry and academics who are dedicated to developing a circular fashion sector,” said Sweden’s ambassador to India Jan Thesleff on the occasion, according to the event organiser’s press release. “The event ‘Fashion Forever’ demonstrates Sweden’s commitment to sustainable development by showcasing the cutting edge of eco-friendly materials and clothing.”
 
The runway show featured a range of sustainable garments including some made from forest slag products and others from recycled shirts. Technology was also highlighted on the runway as some models donned clothing which can communicate with the wearer through an integrated camera to provide assistance to visually impaired and hearing impaired individuals. 

“Our collection ‘Innovation Stories’ represents a new era of style deeply rooted in sustainability,” said H&M India’s country sales manager Yanira Ramirez about the Swedish brand’s contribution to the event. “We strive to reshape the way we create and consume fashion, and this partnership reflects not only a celebration of our shared history but a bold step towards a more sustainable and stylish tomorrow.”
 
Along with participating brands, the Centre of Excellence for Khadi and Swedish School of Textiles also showcased designs on the runway. The Swedish Institute’s ‘Fashion Forever’ exhibition, which chronicles Sweden’s fashion history, was also on display at the event. 
 
“As a major player in the fashion industry we not only have a lot of responsibility but also have great opportunities to make a difference and contribute to the transformation of the fashion industry,” said Lindex’s director of sustainability Anna-Karin Dahlberg in a press release. “We are happy to see the steps that some of our partners in India are taking within social and environmental sustainability.”
