German luxury leather goods and accessories brand MCM (Modern Creation München), currently undergoing a reorganisation, has revealed the name of its new eyewear partner. MCM, which was bought in 2004 by Korean businesswoman Sung-Joo Kim, has recently signed a five-year licence deal for its eyeglasses and sunglasses collections with Italian eyewear producer Marcolin.

Marcolin will commercialise the first eyewear line for MCM in 2024 – Marcolin

Marcolin will design, manufacture and distribute the MCM Eyewear line until December 31, 2028. The first MCM collection created by Marcolin will be commercialised in select stores from January 2024, as the partners indicated in a press release.

MCM was founded in Munich in 1976 as an accessories brand, and a dozen years ago it began to diversify. It launched a first eyewear collection in 2015, after signing a licence agreement with US producer Marchon Eyewear.

The new partnership’s announcement comes as MCM is taking a new strategic direction this year, having decided to reposition itself in the luxury segment, with a new emphasis on e-tail and a revamped brand image. After focusing for a long time on streetwear, MCM is keen to re-engage with its craftsmanship heritage, and has appointed Tina Lutz and Katie Chung as creative directors. The designer duo unveiled their first ready-to-wear and accessories collection in Milan in June.

MCM is currently available at 650 retail outlets, between monobrand stores and multibrand retailers, in 40 countries. Its main markets are Asia, Europe – notably Germany and Austria – and the USA.
