Sabyasachi Mukherjee to create a special object with Create 100 to celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary

Eponymous designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee will create a special object to represent India to celebrate Disney‘s 100th anniversary for the ‘Create 100’ global project. The initiative launched on August 7 and kicked off with a $1 million donation to charitable organisation Make-A-Wish.

Mukherjee joins creatives from across the world who will donate artworks, items, and experiences which are inspired by their connection to Disney, the business announced in a press release. The business began its 100th anniversary celebration and unveiled a multi-coloured wire statue of Mickey Mouse which was created with Virgil Abloh Securities and will be on display in London, UK over the summer. 
 
“Disney’s timeless stories and characters have made an indelible mark on pop culture around the globe, transcending borders, industries and generations,” said Disney’s president of consumer products, games, and publishing Tasia Filippatos in a press release. “We couldn’t think of a better way to honour 100 years of Disney storytelling than by collaborating with this outstanding collective of visionaries in support of Make-A-Wish.” 

Mukherjee has been selected to represent India and will create a special item inspired by his own experiences with the Disney universe. The object will be displayed along with donations from creatives including designer Christian Louboutin, singer Beyoncé, pianist Lang Lang, and designer Tommy Hilfiger among others. 
 
“I was born in 1974,” said Mukherjee. “I grew up with the beloved character Mickey Mouse. There weren’t endless streams of entertainment back then, but Disney was always around. I think the fantastical worlds created by Disney shaped my imagination and made me the designer I am today. It’s my absolute honour and privilege to represent India and be a part of Create 100. It feels like a perfect homecoming.”
