On the evening of July 27, Varun Bahl showcased an exuberantly feminine collection at India Couture Week in New Delhi. The showcase saw Bollywood celebrity Bhumi Pednekar walk as showstopper for the designer in a golden 3D floral set.
This season, Bahl played with florals in prints, beading, and bold 3D appliqués. While traditional silhouettes such as sarees shone on the runway, more experimental styles set the collection apart by using traditional craft techniques to create everything from sleek gowns to avant-garde bubble dresses.
Menswear also featured in the collection with a similarly delicate yet strong aesthetic. Sheer black textiles mixed with oversized floral prints on black suits and traditional sets. The jewellery partner for the showcase was Shri Paramani Jewels which added further sparkle to Bahl’s looks with a selection of tactile and earthy ornaments.
“Last night I walked for one of my oldest friends Varun Bahl Couture and it was just so special,” wrote Pednekar on Facebook about her showstopper experience. “The first ever fashion show I attended was his and now I walked for him. Just beautiful.”
This season, India Couture Week runs from July 25 to August 2 in New Delhi. The main location for the fashion week is the Taj Palace and runway shows are also taking place around the city. The fashion shows are streamed online to enable the public to watch, following on from a trend which took off during the pandemic.
The title sponsor for the Fashion Design Council of India’s India Couture Week is Hyundai and the event runs in partnership with Reliance Brands. The 16 designers participating in the fashion week include Gaurav Gupta, Dolly J, Falguni Shane Peacock, and Ritu Kumar among others.
