Japanese apparel and accessories brand Uniqlo plans to open around six new stores in Delhi NCR in the coming two to three years. The move will bolster its store cluster in the area and further solidify its omni-channel presence in the Indian market.
“Uniqlo is looking at adding about half a dozen or more stores in NCR in the next two to three years,” an anonymous source close to the matter told India Retailing. “But it will also depend on the availability of real estate.”
One of the areas in which the brand appears set to open a store is the upcoming ‘Lykli’ development in Gurugram. The project is being carried out by Ikea’s sister business Ingka Centre and will feature around 250 stores. Scheduled to be completed in 2025, Uniqlo is in talks to be part of the development.
“While we don’t comment on market rumours, we are always looking at opportunities to expand our presence and deliver our LifeWear collections to more and more people in India and around the globe,” a spokesperson for Uniqlo India told India Retailing.
Uniqlo’s Tokyo-based parent company Fast Retailing opened its first store for the fast fashion label in Delhi in 2019. The store is located in Delhi’s Ambience Mall and measures an expansive 35,000 square feet, according to the mall’s website.
