Top 10 Indian cities purchase over 100 million cosmetics products in past six months: Kantar Worldpanel

Over the last six months, shoppers in India’s top 10 cities purchased over 100 million individual cosmetics products and spent over Rs 5,000 crore, according to a beauty industry study by international consumer insights business Kantar Worldpanel.

“With more and more women joining the workforce, the penetration and usage of the sector is only going to improve in the future,” said Kantar’s Worldpanel Division’s South Asia managing director K Ramakrishnan, ET Bureau reported. “Asia is already the beauty centre of the world, with countries like South Korea setting beauty trends across the globe.”
 
Over the past six months, the average customer in Kantar Worldpanel’s study purchased Rs 1,214 worth of colour cosmetics and lip products were highly popular, accounting for 38% of overall colour cosmetics sales. Online shopping for beauty goods is also popular and 40% of beauty purchases in the study were from e-commerce. 

“With rapid urbanisation, and the proliferation of online channels, India is at the cusp of a great cosmetic boom,” said Ramakrishnan. Where previously Indian consumers favoured traditional products such as lipstick and kajal but today more specialised goods such as primer, concealer, and brow products are popular in households across the country.
