Womenswear brand Tarina will showcase a jamdani installation at the Artix art fair from August 25 to 27 at the Taj Palace in New Delhi. The showcase will celebrate the traditional weave with a number of handloom tapestries depicting Maa Durga.
Tarina will represent the fashion industry at the upcoming Artix art fair and present jamdani textiles as works of art, the brand announced in a press release. The aim of the installation is to uplift the craft of weaving while singing the praises of a slow life.
“For the art fair, we have made a few hand spun handloom tapestries using jamdani with Maa Durga as the protagonist in our tapestries,” announced the brand in a press release. “The tapestries have taken many months to weave… You can see the trams, yellow taxi and a rickshaw in the tapestry. It’s a representation of the bygone era[s] which are irrelevant today. Drawing the same comparison, the designer has made an attempt to contemporise jamdani and make it more relevant especially for the younger diaspora.”
Brand founder and designer Tarina Sen began her design journey two decades ago and specialises in using heritage crafts to create contemporary clothing. The brand works to support artisans in West Bengal and Odisha and is gearing up to launch its own website.
