Designer Suneet Varma presented a regal yet delicate bridal and occasion wear collection on the evening of July 26 as part of India Couture Week. The showcase was held with jewellery partner Raniwala 1881 and took place at the Taj Palace’s Shah Jehan Hall in Delhi.
The collection mixed thoroughly classic red lehenga looks with subtly subversive elements such as blouses made entirely of gold jewellery. Along with the more structured silhouettes, numerous translucent ensembles floated down the runway in pastel hues before the finale looks revealed heavily embellished gowns with 3D elements and dramatic proportions.
The couture collection was set against an opulent backdrop of chandeliers and hanging flowers which decorated the entire length of the runway. Models wore their hair in classic buns, accessorised with flowers, and had glamorous yet mature makeup looks for a refined effect.
The 16th edition of the Fashion Design Council of India’s India Couture Week is sponsored by Hyundai and runs from July 25 to August 2. The fashion week runs in association with Reliance Brands Limited across locations in New Delhi and features showcases by 16 designers including Ritu Kumar, Dolly J, Rahul Mishra, and Falguni Shane Peacock among others.
Suneet Varma launched his first couture collection in 1987 after he spent time working for designer Yves Saint Laurent in Europe. The designer opened an eponymous store in New Delhi’s DLF Emporio and today retails from the same store as well as with multi-brand retailers including Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop, Aashni & Co, and Kalki Fashion among others.
