On July 30, eponymous designer Rimzim Dadu presented new men’s and womenswear collection ‘Hydrochromic’ at India Couture Week. The showcase featured a plethora of solid, sculptural garments which flowed like water.
Hydrochromic featured Dadu’s signature metal textile gowns in glimmering metallic hues. This season, the technique was also used on structured men’s suits and to create 3D floral decorations.
The show concluded with Bollywood celebrity Ananya Panday walking the ramp in a ‘Molten Gold Leaf’ bustier and skirt set, Dadu announced on Instagram, which created the image of a modern mermaid with the skirt’s fish scale like design. Dadu describes the collection as, “a meditation on abstract perception and fluidity of thought that ebbs and flows like water,” the brand announced on Facebook.
The jewellery partner for the showcase was Varuna D Jani which adorned the models in a series of nature inspired gems to add to the fluidity of the collection. The concept of water was further explored in the runway show’s invites, which appeared to be a blank piece of paper which revealed the text only when water was poured on top, a show goer revealed on Instagram.
Rimzim Dadu launched her eponymous brand in 2007 and the brand retails from its dedicated e-commerce store and flagship store in Delhi’s DLF Emporio. The label has dressed numerous Bollywood celebrities including Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Deepika Padukone among others.
The 16th edition of the Fashion Design Council of India’s India Couture Week is sponsored by Hyundai and runs from July 25 to August 2. Running in association with Reliance Brands Limited, the fashion week takes place across locations in New Delhi including the Taj Palace and features showcases by 16 designers including Rahul Mishra, Ritu Kumar, Dolly J, and Falguni Shane Peacock among others.
