Reliance Industries Limited’s Reliance Brands plans to exit its partnerships with two global apparel labels, G-Star Raw and Replay, and cease retailing their products in the Indian market. The move comes as consumer demand for the brands has ebbed in the country.

“Most of the G-Star stores have been shut but have presence through online marketplace,” said an anonymous executive source close to the development, ET Bureau reported. “Reliance will soon shut Replay stores as they feel these two brands are losing relevance in the Indian market.” Reliance will replace the shut down Replay and G-Star Raw with other international apparel and lifestyle brands from its extensive portfolio, according to the source.

However, G-Star could partner with another business for distribution should the label still wish to retail in the Indian market. Over 10 years ago, G-Star entered the Indian market in partnership with Genesis Luxury. Reliance acquired Genesis Luxury in 2017 which brought G-Star under Reliance’s brand umbrella.

Reliance Brands gained the exclusive distribution rights for the Replay brand in the Indian market in 2018, the Economic Times reported. Replay is owned by Fashion Box and specialises in denim and casual wear for men and women.
