Diya Kumari’s daughter Gauravi Kumari hosted the evening which was designed to celebrate fashion while supporting the Princess Diya Kumari Foundation’s work to uplift both women and heritage crafts in Rajasthan. Bollywood celebrity Kareena Kapoor Khan attended the event along with a range of names in Indian fashion and entertainment, City Palace Jaipur announced on Facebook.

“Ralph Lauren has been close to my family for a number of years, and when the team heard about the Princess Diya Kumari Foundation, they were deeply interested in the work we do,” Gauravi Kumari told Vogue India about the event. “We initiated a conversation on how to work together a while back and the gala evening was the culmination of many months of discussions and work. They’ve been very generous with their support and I’m really thankful to them.”

The silent auction featured a chance to preview Ralph Lauren’s upcoming collection in Milan, Italy and a chance to stay in the Royal Gudliya Suite of Jaipur’s City Palace among other auction lots. The event also highlighted the charity’s work to preserve artisanal traditions through its fusion wear clothing label PDKF.

“At PDKF, we aim to use the medium of heritage craft to help bring about real change in the lives of the women of Rajasthan who face cultural, financial and socio-economic challenges,” said Kumari about her brand’s aims. “Teaching them skills that help them revive these crafts and make contemporary products using those skills to become self-sustainable is how we balance the two. With this unique model, we essentially incentivise the artisans to keep the ancient traditions and techniques alive, which in the modern age could be easily lost.”
