Prada unveils latest Re-Nylon films starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Sadie Silk

Prada has headed very far north in its latest Re-Nylon films made in collaboration with National Geographic and starring actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Sadie Silk.
 
A four-part storytelling collaboration whose opening documentary is entitled On Artic Tides, and stars Cumberbatch visiting Norway, followed by a short where Silk voyages to Mexico.

 
The two thespians linking up with Prada’s Sea Beyond project; Goodwill Ambassadors Valentina Gottlieb and Giovanni Chimienti; and local National Geographic experts.
 
Regenerated from plastic waste sourced from ocean and landfills, Prada Re-Nylon is a key element in the brand’s drive to create products without using new resources.

In the debut short, Cumberbatch visits the Lofoten Archipelago of Norway, within the Arctic Circle, to examine the critical issue of plastic pollution in the Arctic, alongside environmental advocate and actress Valentina Gottlieb and local expert Carl Höjman.
 
“Turning trash into treasure. It’s just one of the ways in which we see beyond to a blue future,” commented Cumberbatch in the short film, as he strolls along a wild beach on the north Norwegian Sea
 
Ocean currents carrying plastic waste and “ghost nets” – literally thousands of kilometers of lost or abandoned fishing nets – impact ecosystems across the globe, littering beaches and trapping and killing marine life.
 
“They are indicative of unsustainable fishing practices that add thousands of tons of plastic to the ocean each year,” noted the Milanese fashion house.
 
One percent of proceeds from the Prada Re-Nylon’s Sea Beyond Collection goes to Prada’s project Sea Beyond, developed with UNESCO-IOC, to create a series of training initiatives for younger generations, making them aware of the importance of the ocean and the need to preserve it.
