PM Narendra Modi inaugurates Surat Diamond Bourse

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Surat Diamond Bourse on December 17 to mark the official launch of the 35.5-acre facility. The diamond bourse elevates Surat’s position in the global jewellery industry and Modi described it as a symbol of what New India is capable of.

In his inaugural address, Modi stated that the Surat Diamond Bourse will stand tall amongst its global counterparts and elevate the city as a whole, creating around 1.5 employment opportunities, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council reported on its website. The opening ceremony was also attended by the Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel among other dignitaries. 
 
“Surat Diamond Bourse showcases the abilities of Indian designs, designers, materials, and concepts,” said Modi, the GJEPC reported on its website. “This building is a symbol of New India’s capabilities and resolutions.” Modi also gave his congratulations to India’s diamond industry as well as the people of Surat, Gujarat, and India.

The new diamond bourse houses nine towers with 4,500 offices which can accommodate more than 67,000 diamond traders. The facility has been constructed with a focus on sustainability and it features a ‘green building’ which will save 50% on energy and water usage as well as a ‘Panchtatva’ garden.

The ‘Customs Clearance House’, Jewellery Mall and facility of International Banking and Safe Vaults will be significant parts of the bourse,” announced Narendra Modi on Facebook.
