Womenswear designer Nikita Mhaisalkar has made her first foray into artificial intelligence with her new ready-to-wear collection ‘Theodora’. Conceived of by mixing Mahisalkar’s creative vision with AI experimentation, the line is designed to open up new possibilities for the label.
“Theodora is our ultimate muse: the fierce and dynamic empress was indeed fashion’s very first influencer,” said eponymous designer Nikita Mhaisalkar about the collection’s inspiration in a press release. The season-fluid collection is inspired by the Byzantine era and mixes traditional Indian silhouettes with global shapes.
“Taking on AI to celebrate my vision for Theodora was an experience,” said Mhaisalkar. “The AI version of the collection gave me an impressive insight on how Theodora would shape up in terms of prints and embroidery. The AI vision of my work helped me think beyond the regular. It’s an unimaginative, unreal world and I had fun exploring it.”
The collection features Byzantine mosaic patterns which have been reimagined by AI and turned into prints. The collection features bodysuits, tailored suits, glittering bandeau tops, frilly skirts, and resort style maxi dresses with embellished details.
Nikita Mhaisalkar launched her brand in 2003 and its flagship store is located in Nagpur, according to the label’s website. Theodora has gone live on Nikita Mhaisalkar’s direct to customer e-commerce store, which ships pan-India and internationally.
