UK-based department store chain Marks & Spencer has opened its 100th store in India to date. Located in Mumbai’s Santacruz West on Linking Road, the store houses a variety of fashion and lifestyle goods with a British aesthetic.
“Our 100th store is opening today in Mumbai, marking a historic milestone in our India chapter,” wrote the brand on Linkedin. “Carving out a legacy in the world of fashion, this achievement is the result of our team’s relentless pursuit of growth and the unwavering love and support of our customers.”
The store retails products from Marks & Spencer’s private label brands as well as other brands. Marks & Spencer is known for its smart casual attire and premium selection of personal care, home goods, and food items.
The business plans to continue to expand across India and open a new store every month, ET Retail reported. Marks & Spencer counts India as its largest global market in terms of the scale of its store network outside of the UK, where it is based.
Marks & Spencer has operated stores in India for the past 15 years. The business also retails online in the country and garners around 25% of its sales from e-commerce. Headquartered in London, the business opened its first store in 1884 and now operates in 100 global markets through a mix of local partners and online retail channels.
