A man has been seriously injured after a stabbing at the Berlin Holocaust memorial.

Police said on X that a man had been “seriously injured by an unknown person” at about 6pm local time.

“The injured man was taken to hospital. Rescue workers are on site caring for several people who had to witness the events. Investigations are ongoing at the crime scene,” officers added.

The suspect is still at large and police said the motive was so far unknown, and they also don’t yet know what type of weapon was used.

The memorial, which opened in 2005, is a cluster of more than 2,700 grey concrete slabs of varying heights and is a well-known site in the German capital.

Police have cordoned off the memorial, located close to the Brandenburg Gate and US embassy.
