Louis Theroux has paid tribute to American porn star Kagney Linn Karter, who took her own life at the age of 36.

The adult star was found dead in her Ohio home by her mother on Thursday 15 February, Parma Police Department told TMZ.

Parma PD is continuing to investigate but has found “no sign of foul play” related to Karter’s death, TMZ added.

Journalist Louis Theroux, who interviewed Karter in 2012 for a documentary, paid tribute to the porn star on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday, saying she was “kind and thoughtful and v [sic] honest”.

“My thoughts are with her friends and family,” he added.

Friends of Ms Karter created a GoFundMe page for her mother and the costs of her memorial, which has raised more than $20,000 (£15,800).

Megan Lee, who owns a pole dancing fitness studio in Cleveland, set up the funding page.

She said Karter “was a woman who wore many hats; she was a performer, a singer, a dancer, a daughter and a friend”.

She said Karter became a regular at the studio in late 2019 and eventually began a studio of her own in Akron, Ohio.

“Unfortunately, despite all of her many impressive accomplishments and talents, Kagney struggled with mental health issues as the years passed by,” she added.

“As alone as she undoubtedly felt within the confines of her own head, she continued to make an effort to show up for her friends and the community who cared about her.

“She fought her own battles with the same tenacity and drive she showed in every other area of her life, with as much strength as she could.

“Her final class with us was February 7th, less than two weeks before Kagney tragically took her own life in her home.”

Karter was nominated for more than a dozen Adult Video News Awards, according to her IMDb page, including in 2011 for top female performer of the year. She was also a nominee for “best new starlet” in 2010.
