The government highlighted its objective to increase technical textile exports from $2.5 billion to $10 billion in the coming five years, Indian Retailer Bureau reported. The government also aims to elevate the Indian technical textiles market to reach a value of $40 billion to $50 billion in the same time period.Â
The conclave also saw the BIS release four new standards for technical textiles, the Ministry of Textiles announced in its press release. These included standards on jute textiles for packaging and on textiles for medical uses.Â

The Ministry of Textiles secretary Rachna Shah took the occasion to highlight progress made on standards in the technical textiles industry. In order to amplify the production of technical textiles, it is important to map them with the relevant HSN codes to streamline trade tracking, Shah said at the conclave.Â
