The government has chosen Amravati in Maharashtra to house an upcoming PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel park and held a ceremony to announce the decision. The development is designed to boost the state’s economy and the country’s textile industry.
The event witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Government of Maharashtra’s Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation and the central government’s Ministry of Textiles to establish the PM MITRA park, ET Bureau reported. The project will span 1,020 acres of land in Amravati’s Nandgaon Peth which is a brownfield park.
“The well-connected infrastructure of Amravati, including its road, rail, port, and airport networks, will significantly boost the textile industry in Maharashtra,” said commerce and industries minister Piyush Goyal at the opening, the Deccan Herald reported.
Amravati was also chosen for the PM MITRA park for its contributions to India’s textile value chain including farming, manufacturing, and exports. The establishment of textile parks across India is part of the Union Government’s plan to make India a global hub for textile manufacturing.
The Amravati ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavi, and government minister of state for railways and textiles Darshana Jardosh among others. At the ceremony, Jardosh stated that the development will increase investment in the state and create employment opportunities.
