The GJEPC’s deputy director for Jaipur Nitin Khandelwal attended an interaction with joint secretary for Economic Diplomacy and Multilateral Trade Relations Abhishek Singh to explore trade opportunities, the GJEPC reported on its website. The discussion focused on ‘One District One Product’ goods in the fine jewellery industry and looked into ways of exporting them to the US market to boost exports while also aiding rural industries and preserving craft traditions.

The meeting also saw participation from the consul general of India in New York Binaya Pradhan, consul trade Manish Kulhary, and head of chancery Vishal Harsh. Singh pledged his full support to building stronger jewellery trade relations, according to the GJEPC.

A number of jewellery brands have recently begun to expand into the US market and are experiencing growth there. Some of India’s largest jewellery businesses including Malabar Gold & Diamonds and Kalyan Jewellers have opened brick-and-mortar stores in the US and couturier Sabyasachi Mukherjee has collaborated with New York luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman to retail his ‘high jewellery’ line in the store. Brands focus on non-resident Indians as their main customer base and are also increasingly promoting their goods to other demographics as well.
