The 531st day of the Russia-Ukraine War: official operational information by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 08.08.2023.

Russian offensive actions and impact on civilians 

During the day, the Russian army carried out 3 rocket and 47 aviation strikes, conducting 55 shelling rounds from rocket artillery systems on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, due to the Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population, and residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have suffered damage. The likelihood of further rocket and aviation strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.

During the day, there were about 20 combat clashes.

  • In the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation remains without significant changes.
  • In the Siversk and Slobozhansk directions, the Russian army conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Hremyachka and Leonivka in the Chernihiv region. It also carried out mortar and artillery shelling on more than 15 populated areas, including Volodymyrivka, Synkivka, Yasna Polyana in the Chernihiv region; Atyne, Stepok in the Sumy region, and Strilecha, Pylna, Hatyshche in the Kharkiv region.
  • In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian soldiers are holding the defense steadfastly. The Russian army carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Synkivka and Kotliarivka in the Kharkiv region and Novoselivske in the Luhansk region. Russian artillery and mortar shelling targeted more than 10 populated areas, including Fiholivka, Novomlynske, Dvorichna, Kucherivka, and Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region.
  • In the Lyman direction, Russian troops conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and Terniv, Serebrianka, Spirne, and Vesele in the Donetsk region. Russian artillery shelling affected the populated areas of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, and Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region.
  • In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian soldiers are holding the defense firmly and successfully repelled Russian attacks near Klischivka in the Donetsk region. The Russian army carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Kramatorsk, Markove, Klischivka, Pivnichne, and New York in the Donetsk region. Over 10 populated areas, including Vasiukivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Markove, Bohdanivka, and Ivanivske in the Donetsk region, suffered from Russian artillery shelling.
  • In the Avdiivka direction, under heavy fire from Russian aviation and artillery, Ukrainian troops successfully repelled attacks by Russian military in the areas of Avdiivka and Severne in the Donetsk region. The Russian army carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Severne and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region. Populated areas such as Avdiivka, Tonenke, Soloviove, Pervomaiske, and Karlivka in the Donetsk region were affected by Russian artillery shelling.
  • In the Marinka direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to hold back the advance of Russian troops in the Marinka area. The Russian army carried out an aviation strike in the area of Krasnohorivka. Populated areas such as Krasnohorivka, Hostre, Marinka, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region suffered from artillery shelling.
  • In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian soldiers attempted unsuccessfully to regain lost ground in the Staromykhailivka area. They carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Vremivka, Blahodatne, and Staromykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Populated areas such as Vodianne, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Blahodatne, and Staromykhailivka in the Donetsk region, as well as Levadne in Zaporizhzhia, were affected by Russian artillery shelling.
  • In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Russian army carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Novodanilivka and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. Over 15 populated areas, including Malynivka, Huliaypole, Zaliznychne, Huliaypilske, and Mali Shcherbaky in the Zaporizhzhia region, and Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region, suffered from Russian artillery shelling.
  • In the Kherson direction, more than 10 populated areas, including Mykilske, Veletenske in the Kherson region, and the city of Kherson, as well as Kutsurub and Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region, were affected by Russian artillery shelling.

Russia continues its unlawful integration of temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine into its socio-political space. For example, in the settlement of Stulneve in the Zaporizhzhia region, Russian troops have started preparations for agitation activities ahead of the so-called “elections” in the occupied territories on the same voting day in Russia on September 10. Representatives from the United Russia party are expected to arrive to create groups of agitators and informants among local collaborators.

Ukrainian countermeasures

At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions, consolidating their positions at achieved boundaries and conducting counter-battery measures.
During the day, the aviation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out 9 strikes on areas of Russian personnel concentration, weapons, and military equipment.

Rocket troops and artillery units during the day targeted 2 command points, 5 artillery systems in firing positions, an ammunition depot, and 2 radio-electronic warfare stations of the Russian army.
