On the evening of July 27, designer Gaurav Gupta showcased ‘Hiranyagarbha’ at the 16th edition of India Couture Week in New Delhi. The collection juxtaposed flowing lines with dramatic volume and opulent sparkle and followed on from Gupta’s recent runway show in Paris, France.
Presented by DLF Emporio, Gaurav Gupta’s latest couture collection saw Bollywood celebrity Janhvi Kapoor close the show in a deep blue lehenga with a translucent cape. The monochromatic look used intricate beading to create movement and the look epitomised the collection’s modern interpretation of heritage crafts. The futuristic runway saw female models walk in hues of white, citrine, emerald, and royal blue while the men wore deep hued velvet suits with splashes of sparkle.
Gupta debuted Hiranyagarbha at Paris Couture Week’s autumn winter 2024 and its title refers to the golden womb out of which the universe is born. The Paris incarnation of the collection featured Gupta’s classic form fitting gowns as well as evening wear suits, hooded gowns, and voluminous shrugs for a more subversive, fusion wear effect.
For the 16th edition of India Couture Week, the Fashion Design Council of India rallied 16 designers to each showcase a collection in New Delhi with the main location being the Taj Palace. The fashion week is sponsored by Hyundai and runs from July 25 to August 2. The event runs in association with Reliance Brands Limited and participating designers include Ritu Kumar, Suneet Varma, Dolly J, and Falguni Shane Peacock among others.
