E-commerce giant Flipkart is focusing on quick commerce for growth as the category gains traction in India. The business’ senior vice president and group supply chain head Hemant Badri will helm the operation.
Badri has worked at Flipkart for a little more than three years and led growth in its supply chain operations, ET Tech reported. The executive previously worked at Unilever for close to 11 years and was promoted to vice president of worldwide planning at the fast moving consumer goods business, along with other responsibilities. Badri has also worked for Colgate Palmolive, giving him significant experience in retail and fast moving consumer products.
Flipkart plans to launch quick commerce services, where shoppers in select metros can receive their orders within just hours or minutes, this July. In order to launch the service, Flipkart is currently establishing numerous dark stores from which the inventory can ship.
Quick commerce has traditionally focused on groceries and items that shoppers usually need right away. However, a number of established quick commerce businesses in the country are expanding their product offering to include fashion and electronics goods, the two most popular product categories in Indian e-commerce. By stepping into quick commerce under Badri’s direction, Flipkart aims to tap into this growing market.
