Conde Nast names Raul Martinez as Vogue’s new global creative director, reporting to Anna

Must read

Condé Nast has announced the appointment of Raul Martinez as Vogue’s new global creative director, reporting to Anna Wintour in New York.

The move marks the second return to Condé Nast by Martinez in an impressive career. He first joined the magazine publisher 35 years ago in 1988 as an associate art director, before leaving in 1996 to co-found AR New York, a creative agency that handled accounts like YSL, Calvin Klein and Valentino. Raul subsequently returned to work in the magazine group from 2009 to 2015, when as Condé Nast chief creative officer he reported directly to Wintour.

Subsequently, he quit Condé Nast before later joining Victoria’s Secret and Co., where he held the role of head creative director from 2021. The notably talented Martinez has also garnered a National Magazine Award for photography.

His appointment is effective on February 5th, reporting again to Wintour, global editorial director of Vogue and chief content officer of Condé Nast.

“Raul knows Vogue inside and out, and is not only a brilliant, creative thinker, but a great leader and wonderful colleague. I know I speak for the entire team when I say I am so thrilled to have him back,” said Wintour in a release.

Condé Nast stressed in its release that Martinez will oversee creative direction for the title globally and help guide Vogue’s visual approach on all platforms. He will also play a key role in supporting Vogue’s video efforts, ensuring video is seamlessly embedded across all storytelling, including short form and social clips, news-driven reels, and longer features.

“Vogue has always been a home for showcasing new voices and talent. One of the things I am most excited about is using our platform to introduce up-and-coming creatives to the world, as well as to mentor young artists,” said Martinez.

“I also look forward to imagining new ways to tell stories – whether in-book, on social, digital, or video. And, of course, I am so excited to be returning to Condé Nast and to once again partner with Anna,” he added.
