“As a matter of principle, the CIBJO Diamond Commission welcomes all efforts to advance research and development in the industry but insists that any claim be supported by verifiable evidence and that results be repeatable,” said the head of the CIBJO Diamond Commission Udi Sheintal, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council reported on its website. “We can only state with confidence is what is known at present.”

The paper references a study by the Gemological Institute of America in May this year which stated that a scientifically robust study to verify that it is possible to determine the independent provenance of a random natural diamond is possible has yet to be published. The report also explores how changes in diamond industry standards are being affected by geopolitical events and technological developments as well as evolving consumer sentiment.

The paper is the fourth of CIBJO’s pre-congress Special Reports ahead of its upcoming CIBJO 2023 Congress which will take place in Jaipur from October 3 to 5 with a Pre-Congress event from September 30 to October 2, CIBJO announced on Facebook. The event will bring together members of the global jewellery industry to discuss how to boost the sector in the worldwide economy.
