Winter is approaching, and luxury labels are preparing to head back to the ski slopes. Chanel and Louis Vuitton have unveiled their new winter sports collections, featuring outfits for mountain pursuits and après-ski leisure. Chanel’s Coco Neige line has signed up Lily-Rose Depp as its brand ambassador, while the LV Ski line is Louis Vuitton’s contemporary take on an Alpine wardrobe.

Chanel first introduced Coco Neige and Coco Plage in 2018, two complete lines dedicated respectively to mountain and beach wear. The capsule collections are scheduled to hit the in-stores as the season gets under way, enabling the luxury group to further segment its range, while strengthening its market presence.

The new Coco Neige 2023-24 collection designed by Virginie Viard consists of 35 looks. Its ample wardrobe includes sporty performance outfits, like parkas, sleeveless jackets in high-tech satin, jumpsuits, turtleneck sweaters, tops and trousers in stretch jersey coated and lined with fleece, as well as après-ski looks with a more urban feel, like a pair of jeans, a little black dress, snug cardigans, leather and shearling skirts, and loungewear trouser sets in cashmere. Plus of course accessories, from handbags to boots, booties, mittens and hats.

Viard took her cue from the world of figure skating, designing leggings and skintight body suits decorated with rhinestones, like a figure skater’s glitzy dress. To front the ad campaign, Chanel chose Lily-Rose Depp, who perfectly embodies the figure-skater look with her sulky pout, posing inside a dark, cold skating arena after her training session, under the lens of Swedish photographer Mikael Jansson.

Louis Vuitton too has gone for a techno-chic style with its new LV Ski collection for women and men. The luxury label first launched a mountain sports line in 2021. The line’s latest instalment is a functional, dynamic collection with sophisticated performance details, featuring down jackets, parkas, skiing trousers, shell jackets, fleece tops, quilted jumpsuits, sweaters and cardigans.

The garments’ colour palette is limited to ice blue, black, white and deep red, and the outfits are enhanced by abstract graphic patterns and the label’s famous monogram.

The collection also includes a rich assortment of accessories: handbags, bum bags, backpacks, fur-lined booties, snow boots, cable-knit socks, skiing goggles, sunglasses, hats, scarves and headbands, as well as a pair of skis and a snowboard.
