“We are thrilled to onboard India’s first floating ‘I Have Space’ store on Dal Lake, Srinagar,” said Amazon Logistics’ director Karuna Shankar Pande, Indian Retailer Bureau reported. “This will enable us to provide customers across Srinagar with reliable, efficient, and faster deliveries. This also reaffirms our commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for individuals and introducing new capabilities to empower our delivery network.”

The store, named ‘Selec Town’, now offers daily Amazon deliveries and many customers also reside in houseboats on the lake, which is a popular tourist destination. Amazon uses its I Have Space partners for last-mile delivery services.

“The ‘I Have Space’ program was the perfect fit for me to utilise my free time, deliver packages to Amazon customers using my Shikara, and earn additional income,” said Murtaza Khan Kashi, Indian Retailer Bureau reported. “It provided a solution to address increasing expenses and unlock new earning potential.”

Amazon’s I Have Space programme is designed to provide employment opportunities while delivering to more remote locations. The programme runs globally and first launched in 2015 and now operates in 420 towns across India.
