“Spot what’s common between this iconic shot of the 1960s and the one we have recreated for our uniform reveal,” announced Air India on Facebook, debuting the designs in an official photoshoot. “We say it’s the grace, warmth and confidence that our cabin crew has carried throughout the years.”

Malhotra mixed red and purple hues on sarees and bandhgalas for a professional take on classic Indian style. Traditional aesthetics mix with sleek tailoring to highlight the airline’s history and plans for future growth. Air India was recently acquired by Tata Group and is undergoing a large-scale expansion which includes an order for 290 aircraft from Boeing and an additional 250 aircraft from Airbus.

“Air India’s crew uniforms are amongst the world’s most storied in aviation history, and we firmly believe that Manish Malhotra’s innovative ensemble will script an exciting new chapter for Air India’s future narrative,” said Air India’s CEO and managing director Campbell Wilson, Airways Mag reported. “It perfectly captures the essence of our new identity, service principles, and our pursuit of setting new benchmarks in global aviation.”
