Jewellery brand Valliyan showcased an array of sculptural jewellery pieces which it used to question what society will look like in the future and how humans will interact with nature and robots on day three of Lakmé Fashion Week x Fashion Design Council of India in Mumbai.
Valliyan’s men’s and women’s jewellery collection was inspired by the idea of a ‘Society 5.0’ where social and economical norms have shifted. Androgynous, oversized jewels in vibrant hues resembled bugs and butterflies while metal elements brought to mind the drones and robots which are increasingly becoming common in the world.
“The collection attempts to balance economic development with resolving societal and environmental problems,” announced Lakmé Fashion Week on Facebook. “Industry 5.0 which refers to people working alongside robots and smart machines. Creating a new Valliyan world.”
The Valliyan world is a theatrical, opulent one where the art forms of cabaret and drag inspire cocktail rings which look like horned beetles and chunky bracelets with dangling trinkets. The collection was full of philosophical musings but retained a sense of fun with feathers, pearls, and cartoonishly large pendants.
Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI runs from March 13 to 17 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The fashion week’s runway shows are also streamed online to enable the public to view them and the event also features exhibitions, panel discussions, and a shopping fair.
