Sock brand Balenzia has opened a new store in Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. The store is designed to increase brand awareness at a high footfall location and is part of the label’s wider goal of opening exclusive brand outlets in all of India’s major airports.
“The launch of our store at Kolkata Airport is a significant milestone in Balenzia’s journey of retail expansion,” said the brand’s head of strategy Shruti Gupta in a press release. “This strategic move not only marks our inaugural venture into the eastern region but also capitalises on the unique advantages of being located at one of the country’s busiest airports. It is part of our broader strategy to ensure Balenzia is available at all major airports and high-traffic locations across India, thereby enhancing our visibility and making our products accessible to a wider audience.”
The new store is designed to cater to both international travellers and locals alike, according to Balenzia. Shoppers can browse socks featuring popular characters from media franchises including Game of Thrones, Star Wars, and Justice League among others.
Balenzia has access to over 70 licensed properties including imagery from DC Comics, Warner Brothers, HBO, Cartoon Network, Disney, Marvel, and Playboy among others. The brand uses these licenses to create pop-culture inspired socks to cater to men, women, and children to position socks as a vehicle for self-expression.
