Balenciaga has selected Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh to be its latest Brand Ambassador, joining an illustrious corps of stars.

The Paris-based house unveiled the news with a fresh portrait of the actress taken by documentary photographer Platon. He is known for capturing prominent, fashionable, and revolutionary personalities as well as for shooting Balenciaga’s previously named ambassadors French thespian Isabelle Huppert and Thai actor and model PP Krit Amnuaydechkorn.

Yeoh climaxed a remarkable four-decade-long career this year when she became the first Asian to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

In a brilliant series of interpretations of diverse characters, Yeoh has starred as action heroine, dramatic lead and comic star – in such roles as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Memoirs of a Geisha and Crazy Rich Asians. She was also a Bond Girl in the 1997 film Tomorrow Never Dies.

In 2023, the Malaysian-born actress also managed to achieve several barrier-breaking achievements, including winning a Golden Globe and a SAG Award.

“I am thrilled to join Balenciaga as a brand ambassador. For me, fashion is a form of art. It’s not just about a dress but about self-expression, how you feel in the dress, and the values you embody wearing it; it is a way to communicate my work and who I am to the world,” said Yeoh in a release.

At this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Michelle exclusively wore Balenciaga Couture for her red-carpet appearances; and to the Kering Women in Motion Dinner, at which she accepted the night’s Women in Motion prize – awarded by Kering and the festival for her significant contributions to cinema and her ability to inspire future generations of talent.

“Wearing Balenciaga makes me value the artistry and craftsmanship behind every piece. The brand embodies a sense of originality and relevance while always remaining true to its heritage as a couture atelier. It is an honor to partner with Balenciaga,” added the actress, once ranked by film aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes as the greatest action heroine of all time in 2008.
