Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) names Rakesh Mehra as new chairman

The Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) has appointed Rakesh Mehra as its new chairman and Ashwin Chandran as its deputy chairman. Both will serve in their new roles for the coming two years.

CITI also appointed Dinesh Nolkha as its vice chairman and announced all three appointments at its 65th Annual General Meeting, which was held virtually, it announced on Facebook. The new CITI heads will lead the industry organisation until 2025.
 
New chairman Mehra vocalised his commitment to overseeing collaborative and inclusive projects at CITI to work towards furthering the growth of the Indian textile industry. Mehra is also chairman of textiles business Banswara Syntex which exports textiles, yarns, and garments and has a turnover of around Rs 1,400 crore, the Economic Times reported. 

CITI’s previous chairman T Rajkumar took the occasion of the meeting to acknowledge the Indian textile industry’s resilience when faced with challenging circumstances recently including geopolitical uncertainties, stagnating production, low trade levels, and inflation in many countries. Rajkumar stated that the industry has managed to achieve 4.33% growth in cumulative textile and apparel exports in August this year compared to the year before, despite these challenges. CITI is based in New Delhi and advocates for textile industry business while aiming to boost exports in the sector.
