Godrej Consumer Products Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding with the State Government of Tamil Nadu to form a strategic partnership which will see GCPL set up a manufacturing plant in the state.
“Our commitment to invest Rs 515 crore over the next five years is aligned with GCPL’s long-term strategy of actively contributing to India’s growth trajectory,” said GCPL’s executive chairperson Nisaba Godrej, India Retailing reported. “We remain steadfast in our dedication to provide affordable, high-quality, and innovative products to consumers. With the establishment of this facility, we are poised to generate over 400 employment opportunities within Tamil Nadu. Our vision extends to fostering an inclusive and gender-balanced workforce, with a targeted inclusion of 50% women and 5% individuals from the LGBTQ and persons with disabilities (PWD) communities.”
Along with Nisaba Godrej, the MoU was signed in the presence of Tamil Nadu’s chief minister MK Stalin. The business’ upcoming manufacturing plant will be located in Chengalpattu District’s Thiruporur Taluk, which is close to Chennai. The plant will act as a central manufacturing hub for products including shampoo, creams, and hair colours among others.
“We are pleased to announce the strategic collaboration with Godrej Consumer Products for the establishment of their novel plant, marked by an investment of Rs 515 crore within our state,” said MK Stalin. “This endeavour holds immense promise, poised to invigorate our local economy by generating employment prospects and propelling our state’s industrial growth.”
